Despite volcanic ash clouds and economic problems millions of tourists are still expected to enjoy a holiday abroad this year.  And Lanzarote in the Canary Islands remains a popular destination – and is on course to welcome well over 1.4 million tourists this year.

Lanzarote has been a popular holiday destination ever since the 1970´s.  And over the years has received close to 2 million visitors at the peak of its popularity.  That figure has fallen away a little since then but the island is still popular, especially with tourists from the UK, who account for well over 50% of all visitors.

Key to this popularity is climate, as Lanzarote boasts great weather all year round.  With temperatures hitting the 20´s even in December and very little rainfall in evidence.  Whilst the island also boasts close to 100 beaches, some of which are regarded as amongst the best in the Canaries.

Visitors can choose from three different resorts, Costa Teguise, Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca.  All of which boast a good selection of Lanzarote villas and hotels.  Along with plenty of competitively priced apartments.

Puerto del Carmen is the largest of these resorts and is home to great selection of beaches as well as lots of bars and restaurants.  The resort revolves around the Old Town harbour area, from where tourists can take a variety of boat trips.  And also boasts the best nightlife on the island too, making it a great choice for visitors who like to spend quiet days on the beach or by the pool followed by lively nights on the town.

Costa Teguise to the north is quieter and better suited to families and couples.  Boasting a great selection of Lanzarote hotels and easy access to the best known tourist attractions on the island.  Such as the Jameos del Agua, Mirador del Rio and the Cactus Garden.  All creations of the famous local artist César Manrique.

Playa Blanca is the second largest resort on the island and is located right at the southern foot of Lanzarote.  Just across the Bocaina Straits from Fuerteventura.  Villas in Playa Blanca are especially popular with tourists – not least as they offer great value for money.  And can be rented from as little as €400 per week.

Whichever resorts tourists choose they can expect to enjoy great weather whenever they visit thanks to Lanzarotes’ clement climate.
